Ed McLean -- sailor and friend to CRYC Comet sailors, a member of SSA, and a role model for the entire fleet -- was met with tragedy during what should be one of the happiest times of the year. Ed McLean's lovely wife, Barbara, passed away unexpectedly from a brain aneurysm on December 30th. Our sympathies go out to Ed and his family over the loss of his very dear wife and companion, Barbara McLean. The obituary: Obituary for Barbara Jean Hawkins McLean Barbara Jean Hawkins McLean, 74, of Severna Park and previously of Virginia, died of a brain aneurysm December 30th at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Mrs. McLean was born on April 20th, 1934 in Victoria, Virginia, to the late Zora H. Hawkins and Stewart O. Hawkins, Sr. Survivors include her loving husband of 53 years, Edward McLean, two daughters, Valerie DiPietro of Arnold and Catharine Nutter of Arnold; her sister, Ruth Carver of Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren, Bryce DiPietro, David and Caitlyn Nutter of Arnold Md. Her hobbies included shopping, making flower arrangements, cake decorating and baking. She especially enjoyed helping and caring for her family and friends. Words cannot express how much she will be missed by those that knew her. A close casket visitation and service will be held on Tuesday, January 6th from 3 to 5 P.M. at Barranco and Sons Funeral Home, Severna Park, Maryland. A brief Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 7th , 11:20 A.M. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Md. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her name to Compass Research Institute (CRI) in the Breast Center at the Anne Arundel Medical Center, Sajak Pavilion, Suite 120, Annapolis, MD 21403.
